The Sungate® Antenna Windshield
Because of its dual role in radio wave reception and heat-load reduction, the Sungate antenna windshield from PGW offers automotive manufacturers a new cost-saving option in overall vehicle design.
The Sungate antenna windshield, besides reflecting solar energy, also receives broadcast radio waves. The vehicle body serves as the electrical ground plane.
Effective, hidden, and economical, this antenna system performs well in both the AM and FM frequency bands. And, because of the solar reflective coating, it provides all of the benefits previously discussed for the Sungate automotive windshield.
Benefits of the Sungate Antenna Windshield
-
Provides global radio reception capability
-
Improves aesthetics by providing hidden antenna
-
Eliminates warranty associated with whip antennas
-
Reduces mass
-
Eliminates wind noise associated with mast-type antennas
-
Reduces time of assembly of the vehicle
The Results are In...
In-car test results have confirmed that performance of the Sungate antenna windshield is comparable to that of a fender whip antenna without the use of amplification equipment.
And, because the antenna is incorporated within the windshield in close proximity to the vehicle’s radio, reductions in coaxial cable length and associated weight and cost typically result.
